How I found healing on the dance floorđź•ş

Me during Carl Craig’s incredible Sunday afternoon set at Nation of Gondwana 2021

Before I started regularly meditating, dancing at Berlin clubs was my only form of meditation.

There is something transcendental that happens when you allow yourself to be taken on a journey during a DJ set. It's like riding down a winding mountain road you’ve never been on before - you don’t know what awaits you at any given turn. So you let go and enjoy the ride, enjoying the scenery + views you see as you go. All this while being alongside hundreds of strangers (and friends) who are on the same journey as you. I’ve had many moments on the dance floor where I felt that this is the best and most incredible place to be in the entire universe.

I gratefully relived this during @cinthie_dj absolutely banging set at @nation_of_gondwana_pyonen. I looked out over the dance floor (dancing atop a crate, because disco queen) & the purple lights flooded the dance floor as everyone bounced in unison, radiating pure ecstatic joy to the legendary house music playing. I was overwhelmed by profound awe. The type of awe that leaves you breathless - one that comes when looking out at something as sublime as the Grand Canyon. Here we all were, reunited after 18 months of isolation and fear, finally dancing together again. My heart cracked opened and I burst into tears - I really do believe this was one of the most beautiful and healing sights I have ever seen in my life.

I have dozens of stories like this (there is nothing quite like being pulverised in the Hammerhalle or Berghain while dancing your demons out) but those are for another day, perhaps.

To me, the dance floor is a sacred place. It’s a place of freedom, presence, unity, love and peace. It’s where I feel most free to be myself alongside likeminded people. It’s where I can momentarily forget my sorrows, my “self”, and simply be. If it wasn’t for clubs, techno and house music, I’m not sure where, or even if, I would be today.

Do you have any transcendental dance floor experiences?
