Shamanic Reiki & Somatic Healing:
Frequently Asked Questions

Welcome to this space of inquiry, curiosity and integration. Choosing a practitioner or a teacher is a deeply personal decision, and it is natural to have questions about how Shamanic Reiki and Somatic Bodywork can support your unique journey. Whether you are seeking a space for deep healing here in Berlin, looking to step into the study of Shamanic Foundations, or ready to advance your own practice through Reiki Levels 1-4 and professional mentorship, you will find the practical and philosophical details of my work below.

An Integrative Approach: Somatic Science & Shamanic Reiki

  • My work is a rare synthesis of Usui Reiki, shamanic practice, transformational life coaching, and somatic bodywork. Rather than treating these as separate techniques, I work within a unified, grounded framework that honors the whole person, meeting you exactly where you are. I also limit my weekly client load to ensure I remain fully present for the depth of this practice.

  • Traditional Western psychotherapy is primarily a "top-down" approach focused on cognitive understanding and conversation. While deeply helpful, it can often miss the layers held in the body and spirit.

Many of my clients come to me when they have "hit a wall" with traditional therapy. They understand their trauma and past intellectually, but their body still reacts as if the threat is present.

My approach is "bottom-up". We prioritize nervous system awareness and regulation, and emotional processing. Instead of just analyzing a pattern, we create a somatic and energetic space for it to actually shift.

  • Healing isn't limited to cognitive or energy work alone. Because emotional experiences are often physically stored as muscular tension or nervous system patterns, my sessions sometimes integrate Reiki with somatic bodywork. This ensures that the healing is embodied and leads to more lasting change than simple relaxation.

  • This work may be for you if you feel chronically stressed, emotionally overwhelmed, stuck in repeating patterns, or disconnected from your body.

Many of my clients are thoughtful, sensitive adults who manage responsibilities well but feel something deeper calling for attention.

This approach is also for those who feel ready to take responsibility for their own inner life. Healing here is not about being fixed. It is about becoming more conscious, more embodied, and more accountable and aware for how we live and relate.

Shamanic practice reminds us that we do not exist in isolation. We are in relationship with our communities, the land on which we live, and the wider world. Personal healing naturally ripples outward. As we come into greater alignment within ourselves, we often find ourselves relating more consciously to others and to the environment around us.

If this resonates, you are likely in the right place.

  • To ensure the highest level of care and integrity, this approach may not be suitable if you are:

    • Seeking a "Quick Fix": Shamanic, energetic and somatic work is a journey of unfolding. While a single session can be profound, lasting change requires a commitment to the integration process.

    • Looking for "Dramatic" Experiences: My work is grounded in steadiness and nervous system regulation. If you are seeking a purely spiritual "high" or a dramatic catharsis without the work of integration, this may not be the right fit.

    • Relinquishing Agency: I cannot "heal" another person on your behalf, nor can I "fix" you. Sessions are collaborative. Your participation, honesty, and willingness to engage with your own process are essential. While I hold the space and offer guidance, you remain responsible for your choices, interpretations, and actions outside of our sessions.

  • Yes. You do not need to "believe" in anything for this work to be effective. While the spiritual lineage of Shamanic Reiki is vital, my practice is equally grounded in Nervous System Science and Relational Attunement. Your body responds to a safe environment and focused presence regardless of your belief system.

Beyond the energetic, my approach incorporates established psychological frameworks:

    • Gestalt Therapy: We focus on the "here and now," helping you become aware of how you are blocking your own energy or feelings in the present moment.

    • Transactional Analysis (TA): We look at your "inner child" or "parent" ego states to understand the scripts that drive your stress and behaviors.

    • Buddhist Psychology & Mindfulness: We use the concept of the "Observer" to witness thoughts without being consumed by them, allowing for radical acceptance.

If you are a skeptic, we can approach our sessions through the lens of Nervous System Regulation. We aren't just "moving energy”, we are training your brain and body to move out of high-cortisol "survival mode" and into a state of deep restorative rest. Curiosity is the only requirement.

  • In the West and in a city like Berlin, we are conditioned to rush. However, the spirit, the body and the nervous system cannot be "hustled" into healing. A 90-minute container ensures there is sufficient time for an intake conversation, the treatment itself, and, most importantly, integration time so you feel grounded before returning to your day.

Session experience & integration

  • To get the most out of our time in Berlin Neukölln, San Francisco Bay Area or online, I recommend arriving with a relatively "clear" system.

    • Hydration: Drink plenty of water throughout the day.

    • Nutrition: Avoid heavy meals or excessive caffeine before we meet.

    • Attire: Wear comfortable, white or light colored, loose-fitting clothing. You will remain fully clothed, but we want to ensure your breath is not restricted.

    • Intention: Take 5 minutes before the session to settle and consider what you would like to move toward or release.

  • We begin with a grounded intake conversation to establish what is present for you. During the treatment, you will lie comfortably on a massage table.

    • Touch & Consent: I use a combination of light, stationary touch and hands hovering just above the body. Touch is never mandatory. We will discuss your comfort levels at the start of every session, and somatic bodywork is only integrated with your explicit, ongoing consent.

    • Sensory Tools: I may use tools such as rattles, drums, or ethically sourced plants like rosemary to help shift stagnant energy.

  • While every person’s journey is different, most people leave the session feeling a profound sense of relaxation, as if something that was previously stuck has finally been moved, restored, or let go of. Because we are working with both the body, the nervous system and the energetic field, the effects don't always show up all at once. You might feel a deep, quiet calm immediately, or you might notice shifts in your clarity and perspective days or even weeks after the session.

A few things you might experience:

    • A "Lightness" or Restoration: A feeling of coming back home to yourself, moving out of "survival mode" and into a state of restorative safety.

    • Clarity & Calm: A quieter mind and a greater sense of "groundedness" in your daily life.

    • Embodied Self-Trust: A stronger connection to your own intuition and body awareness.

    • The "Heavy" Phase: Occasionally, if we have moved a lot of "negative ki" (stagnant energy) or processed deep emotions through the lens of transformational and somatic coaching, your body might feel heavy or tired afterward. This is a beautiful sign that your system is physically rebalancing and integrating the work.

  • While many people leave feeling lighter, it is also common, and completely natural, to feel a bit "tender", “raw” or even more tired than usual. In the Reiki tradition, this is sometimes called a "Cleansing Process" or a “healing crisis”.

When we move "negative ki" (stagnant energy) that has been held in the body for a long time, your system sometimes needs to physically and emotionally process that release. This might manifest as:

    • Emotional Sensitivity: Feeling a bit closer to tears or more "open" than usual.

    • Physical Heaviness or Symptoms: A deep fatigue as your nervous system shifts from "survival mode" into balance and repair. Sometimes you might have physical symptoms.

    • Vivid Dreams: Your subconscious continuing to "alphabetize" and clear out old scripts from Gestalt or TA work.

These symptoms typically resolve within 48 hours and are actually a beautiful sign that your body is doing the deep work of rebalancing and integrating.

You can read more about the “Healing Crisis” here.

  • Integration is just as important as the time we spend on the table. Think of the 24-48 hours following a session as a "sacred window" for your system to land.

    • Honor the "Slow Down": If possible, avoid high-stress social situations or heavy "screen time" immediately after. Give your nervous system a chance to stay in its new, regulated state.

    • Grounding in Neukölln: I highly recommend a slow walk in a nearby park (like Comenius Garten, Thomashöhe, Körnerpark or Hasenheide) to anchor the work. Sitting quietly with your back against a tree can help the energy "drain" and settle into your body.

    • The Ritual of Water: Drink plenty of water and consider a saltwater bath (sea salt or Epsom salts) to help your energetic field feel clear and protected.

    • Journaling: If you find insights, images, or feelings emerging after our session, jotting them down can help keep the dialogue with your subconscious open.

  • There is no "one-size-fits-all" answer to this. The frequency of Shamanic Reiki treatments depends entirely on your unique nervous system, your current life circumstances, and, most importantly, your own intuition. Healing is not a linear process, and I encourage you to listen to your body’s pace.

    However, as a general guide:

    • For acute stress, medical issue or "blockages": If you are navigating a particularly heavy transition or feel deeply stuck, a series of 3 to 5 sessions spaced 2 weeks apart can help build the momentum needed to create lasting change.

    • For ongoing maintenance: Many clients choose to come once a month as a form of "energetic hygiene". They gift themselves a dedicated space to regulate their nervous system and check in with their internal landscape.

    • The intuitive approach: Some find that one deep session every few months is exactly what they need to "alphabetize" their thoughts, rest, recalibrate and return to center.

  • You will likely feel it. Some people notice a "call" from their body, like a specific kind of fatigue, a recurring emotional pattern, or simply a desire for the stillness that our sessions provide. We will always leave space at the end of our time together to discuss what feels right for your specific journey.

Training & Mentorship: Lineage, Shamanism & Reiki

  • Lineage is the "energetic DNA" and tradition of Reiki. I am a certified Usui Reiki Master Teacher, and my lineage can be traced directly back to Mikao Usui. For those curious about the specific transmission of these teachings, you can find my full Lineage Map here. In my courses, I honor these traditional foundations while integrating my Shamanic lineages and Buddhist lineage to provide a multidimensional understanding of how energy work interacts with the human nervous system and the nature of the mind.

  • I offer comprehensive, small-group trainings in Usui Reiki Levels 1 through 4. Each level is designed to be a grounded, somatic experience that bridges ancient lineage with modern integration.

    • Level 1 (Shoden): Foundations & Self-Healing This level is about "waking up" your innate healing capacity. We focus on the history of the Usui lineage, the anatomy of the energetic body (the chakra system), and the foundational hand positions. You will learn how to facilitate a full treatment for yourself, which the most important step, as well as how to share this restorative energy with friends, family, plants and pets.

    • Level 2 (Okuden): The Deepening & Emotional Healing Level 2 is a significant step deeper into the practice. You are introduced to the first three Sacred Symbols, which act as "keys" to focus energy for emotional and mental clearing. This level focuses on healing across time and space (distance healing) and explores the deeper psychological and emotional layers of the Reiki practice.

    • Level 3 (Shinpiden/Master): Spiritual Mastery For those ready to make Reiki a lifelong path. This level introduces the Master Symbol and focuses on deepening your personal practice and spiritual connection. It is an intensive period of advanced Reiki training where we refine your intuitive capacity and somatic presence.

    • Level 4 (Master Teacher): The Teacher’s Path This level is for those called to pass on the attunements and hold the lineage for others. We focus on the ethics of teaching, the ritual of the attunement process, and how to create a safe, integrative learning environment for your own future students.

  • I do not teach Reiki in a vacuum. My approach is deeply informed by my Buddhist practice which emphasizes compassion and the "beginner's mind." My Shamanic training provides the tools for navigating the subconscious and the unseen realms. As a queer, Mexican-American-Californian immigrant living in Berlin, I understand the somatic toll of displacement and the beauty of cross-cultural and generational healing. My lived experience informs my understanding of how identity and belonging impact the nervous system.

By bridging these ancient traditions with Somatic Science and frameworks like Gestalt, I help students develop a practice that is spiritually deep yet psychologically grounded and safe.

  • Yes. I offer a Foundations of Shamanism course designed for those who want to safely and ethically explore shamanic journeying and earth-based wisdom. As a queer, Mexican-American-Californian, I teach from a place that honors the "Old Ways" while remaining grounded in our modern, urban context. We focus on practical tools for reclaiming your innate intuitive capacities including:

    • Shamanic Journeying: Using the steady beat of the drum to access the subconscious and the "invisible" realms.

    • Power Animals and Spirit Guides: Developing a direct and personal relationship with your own spiritual authority.

    • The Three Worlds: Learning to navigate the Lower, Middle, and Upper worlds for personal growth and healing.

    • Ethical Integrity: Navigating the history of shamanism with respect and avoiding the co-opting of closed indigenous traditions.

  • Both practices complement each other beautifully. I often describe Reiki as the "battery" and Shamanic practice as the "map." Reiki provides the channeled light and restorative energy needed to support and regulate the nervous system. Shamanic practice provides the active tools for navigating the psyche and the symbolic language of the soul. My approach is rooted in Somatic Science and ensures that your spiritual exploration remains psychologically safe and integrated. Whether you are a seasoned practitioner or completely new to energy work, these foundations help you build a steady and grounded relationship with the spirit world.

  • Yes. I take on a limited number of mentees at a time to ensure the quality of the container. My mentorship is a blend of clinical-style supervision and shamanic guidance. It is designed for practitioners who want to deepen their professional practice or process complex client cases. It is also for those who want to bridge the gap between energy work and psychological coaching frameworks.

Note on Mentorship: My mentorship and supervision tracks are currently by application only and are not available for direct booking. If you are a practitioner seeking to deepen your craft, please reach out directly to discuss a potential mentorship.

  • I believe that the transition to the Master level requires dedicated professional support. Because of this, my Level 3 (Shinpiden) and Level 4 (Master Teacher) students receive a set amount of 1:1 supervision time included in their tuition. This ensures that you have a dedicated space to process your experiences as you deepen your intuitive capacity and somatic presence. It also allows us to focus on the ethical and spiritual responsibilities of teaching and holding space for others.
